Before You Visit...
Truckee, California, is a delightful destination with a lot to offer. Here are some key things to know before you visit:
Weather and Seasons:
Winter: Truckee is a winter wonderland, perfect for skiing, snowboarding, and other snow activities. Be prepared for cold temperatures and snow-covered roads.
Summer: Summers are warm and ideal for hiking, biking, and water activities. The weather is generally pleasant, but it’s wise to bring layers as temperatures can drop in the evenings.
Spring and Fall: These shoulder seasons offer fewer crowds, beautiful wildflowers in spring, and stunning fall foliage. It’s a great time for outdoor activities and enjoying the scenery.
Altitude:
Truckee sits at an elevation of about 5,817 feet (1,773 meters). If you’re not used to higher altitudes, take it easy for the first day or two to acclimate. Stay hydrated and be mindful of altitude sickness symptoms.

Car: Having a car is convenient for exploring Truckee and nearby attractions. However, free public transportation is available through the Tahoe Truckee Area Regional Transportation (TART) system.
